Past

When we first started, we primarily focused on diet and natural services as most ranchers do. We produced decent cattle through this process, but it simply wasn’t good enough and it certainly wasn’t consistent. It was hard for us to make smart decisions since the data on the cattle we purchased was lackluster at best. We quickly realized that this approach would not allow us to have the herd we were aiming for. We began to invest in cutting-edge technology that would allow us to collect data on our herd and use it to make informed decisions about breeding and management practices.

Present

Today we use cutting-edge technology, like in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer to give us more control over the process. Over 90% of our calves are born through embryo technology. This has allowed us to be much more precise in our breeding and gender selection to produce the best Wagyu beef in the United States.

We send a new group of bulls to trials every four months. We collect performance data on their average daily gain, feed efficiency, carcass quality, and more. This allows us to make better decisions about which bulls to keep breeding. We are also going further by tracking data on the second, third, and fourth generations of our cattle. Each time, we get closer and closer to perfection.

Future

Even with all the progress we’ve made, we’re not satisfied. We’re always looking for ways to improve and be at the forefront of Wagyu beef production. We are currently exploring the use of genome mapping and other cutting-edge technologies that will allow us to produce Wagyu cattle that are even healthier, more flavorful, and more resilient.

Some of the technology we are exploring include:

•       DNA tests to ensure we are selecting the right bulls for our herd

•       Proprietary software to manage our breeding program

•       RFID tags to track individual cattle throughout their life cycle

• Full lifecycle tracking from semen & embryos to harvested animals in a single transactional ledger living on the Blockchain, which will allow us to never question the lineage of cattle again.

•       In-depth carcass analysis to assess meat quality
